I began writing a short story about Vikings last year, which took a totally unexpected turning and ended up as a different story that I had not foreseen at all.
But what was left over, also unexpectedly, became this poem.
It is going to be a busy couple of weeks, now, so I probably won’t be able to post or reply to comments as much as I’d like, but I’ll check in whenever I can.
All the best to you all!
Brilliant descriptive work Mick.I’ll have another flagon too old chum.

I love it when a story goes somewhere else than intended 🙂
And this is a great poem, lots of wonderful imagery, like one of the old sagas. Truth turned into something more, a gleaming tale of the past.

Thanks, Helen. I think of it as a bonus meal from leftovers!

I have images in my head, as I read! Thank you, Mick! I tend to attach it to our history….but I know it’s just me.

You’re welcome, Kathryn. History, of course, belongs to everyone…

Some folks can write vivid poetry. I’m not one of them. Clearly, you are. Nicely done.

Wonderful use of the senses in this poem, Mick – having seen the largest Viking ship in the world in Oslo I could well imagine the journey over as you describe it.

Thanks very much. I’ve never seen one in the round – it must be impressive!

It was amazing and awe-inspiring…I had been worried I would be underwhelmed, no chance! We’re hoping to go up to see them again this year as well as the Kon-Tiki museum.
