Tengboche is a monastery complex and a couple of trekking lodges on the route up to Everest Base Camp from Lukla, in Nepal. It sits high above the waters of the Dudh Khosi.
Inside Tengboche monastery following a puja (ceremony).
Rightly or wrongly, I don’t like taking photographs of pujas in monasteries. It feels intrusive and bad mannered. I would feel the same in a church, mosque or temple. This has nothing to do with any beliefs of my own, but is born of simple respect.
I noted in my diary: We have just sat in on a chanting puja, but my meditation failed dismally. I was completely unable to concentrate on my breath as all that I could think of were my freezing feet!
It was blooming cold!
Such rich colours! I too could not meditate there either, too much interesting stuff going on around me, too captivating to switch off from.

I know – always so much happening: chanting, drums, gongs, candles…especially after nightfall. But for me, it was the cold!

Reading this made my feet cold. Let’s call it sympathy pains. Either that or I’m remembering way too many frigid days in the mountains.

I am very fond of Kathmandu. Your hometown must be somewhere around the Everest region?

No, not that far east. Somewhere between Kathmandu and Lukla. Even closer to Kathmandu than Lukla.
Whereabouts do You live?

Colorful. I’m generally ok with taking pics of empty temples, etc, but if people are using them that’s another story. With people permission should come first.
