Finally, it’s warm and sunny here! Hooray!
So here are a few random pictures I took in Sri Lanka some while ago. So what relevance is there in that? None, really…
I just like the randomness of them.
Lurking Kingfisher…
That, incidentally, is a Cannon Ball Tree.
And that’s why.
And I have no idea what that tree is called, but the strange roots are little more than a hand-breadth wide, and as tall as I am.
Sri Lanka looks beautiful! I am hoping to visit next year.

It is beautiful. And well worth a visit! Thanks for visiting.

Wow, the roots on that tree are incredible. They resemble rock formations. I also like the aptly named cannonball tree. I suppose those “balls” come in handy for mischievous kids!

It wouldn’t surprise me!

Your post reminds me of my visit to Sri Lanka in 2001. I vividly remember the date of the flight as it was the day after the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers. Being determined not to lose my holiday I didn’t cancel the trip and I certainly don’t regret having visited Sri Lanka.
I remember hearing the crickets while sitting on the hotel balcony and the gorgeous scent of the vegetation after the rains. Thank you for reminding me of it Mick. Do you actually live there?

Goodness, no, Kevin. I live a few dozen miles from you!

And I’m impressed you went ahead with your visit. I think an awful lot of people cancelled flights after the attack – and an awful lot of flights I think were cancelled anyway. So I’m glad you got there.

Thanks, Mick. I would dearly love to return to Sri Lanka one day. In fact I was recently talking with acquaintences in my favourite local pub, who had just returned from Sri Lanka and it brought the mories flooding back.

Sorry, I did, of course mean memories and I haven’t even visited my favourite local today …

I have trouble with those mories flooding at times too, Kevin. It always leads to trouble.

I heard drought has hit Sri Lanka hard this year.

Thanks, Sandeep. I had not heard about the drought this year.

Botanical Gardens, I am guessing. I could have sworn it is the same cannon ball tree 🙂 By the way, lovely photos.

Yes, the trees were in there. The other two were by the lake.

I love the kingfisher photo. The brillianf splash of blue, and the reflections in the water.

Thanks, Denise. I think kingfishers are really magical. We have very few brightly coloured birds in the UK, but I’ve seen kingfishers there once or twice, and that feels really special. They seem to be more common in Sri Lanka, but it’s no less special to see them.

Sri Lanka looks like an interesting place. Another blogger I follow, at http://www.greenglobaltrek.com/ is an expat who’s currently living there. She’s also done some recent posts on an India excursion you might enjoy.

Thanks, Dave. That looks an interesting site, but I can’t see how to follow it!

Extraordinary trees, Mick – the Cannon Ball Tree looks surreal and alien in nature and the roots of the unnamed tree look like they could be dangerous! Wonderful photos from Sri Lanka – randomness is good at times!

Thanks, Annika. Yes, a bit of randomness is good for us all, I think. And those trees are a bit surreal!
