About an hour after I wrote my previous post, we finally had some serious rain. Real, well-intentioned rain. Rain that took its responsibilities seriously. It even managed a little bit of thunder thrown in every now and again, although nothing too strenuous. So as soon as I published that post, really, it had been overtaken by events. Because the trouble with writing about rain, especially in Britain, is that by the time you’re done, it’s doing something quite different and making you look a bit foolish.

And this morning we have a light, steady rain again, but this time it feels very different to that of yesterday. Perhaps it’s just because the last twelve hours have been wet, and this weather has now established itself as a new, if temporary, normal. The day is bright and grey and, I have to admit, I love it. At this time of year the greens of the countless new leaves on all the trees and bushes and smaller plants glow with a wonderful brightness, even under the grey and the gloom. It is a day to put on boots and a light waterproof (it’s still very warm) and go out for a long wander.
So that is what I think I’ll do.
A serious rain always does magic and add colours.

I like that, well-intentioned, sober-minded rain. I’d collect a pitcherful for mixing with the whiskey.

I like to think of rain as having objectives, Robert, possibly mandatory targets it needs to meet. Perhaps my next post will be about Corporate rain and opportunities for ambitious precipitation.

Some of the thunderstorms this year seem to have definite intentions, like flattening us puny humans, or washing us into Lake Michigan, I guess that’s the clouds’ ultimate goal and holy hail grail.

Every rainstorm is a wannabe flood.

I told you I’d send your rain back to you! I hope you enjoyed your long (wet) wander, my friend. We have had sunshine and moderate temps but with high humidity all week long. Time for a good ol’ thunderstorm, methinks, but the trouble is that at this time of year that often spawns tornadoes … and I do NOT like those!

Fortunately, we don’t get any of those. It’s quite humid here, though, and raining still.

Speaking of which, we are under a tornado watch until 11:00 p.m. here today! Don’t worry … I won’t send you any of those! 😉

A worrisome evening when a tornado hit just a couple of miles from here and lightning struck a house one street away, bringing the fire department! But, all is calm now.

That’s what we have at the moment, despite the forecast thunderstorms. So far, they’ve failed to materialise.

Hmmm, We have a nice northerly chucked in for good measure, not so warm. Think I’ll skip wandering out today the butters and dragons will be all tucked up safe and dry.

They are, although maybe not all of the time in places like Sikkim!
