I put a few photos of Venice up on here a long time ago. Today I fancied putting up a few more. We’ve been to Venice just the once, and really enjoyed it. We saw it in the sun and in the rain. Both were beautiful. We should probably go again before it sinks.
There are a lot of large houses of this type!
The ubiquitous gondolas.
Arab statue on a street corner.
The Grand Canal
Chiesa del Santissimo Redentore
Hope your day is a good day.

I’ve never been to Venice but so many people I talk to love it.

I was very impressed. Although I’ve not posted any photos, the outlying islands and lagoons were really worth a visit, too.

I always thought being boxed inby canals might be a bit much, I’m interested to hear there are outlying lagoons too, I might enjoy that more. Thanks.

There are lots of water taxis / buses which are rather fun in their own right.

The photo of the Arab trader (?) was so evocative of the historical importance of the city. Really liked that one amongst all the other beautiful images. Thanks for sharing them.

Thanks, Diti. There’s several of those statues scattered around the city. Back in the fifteenth / sixteenth centuries especially, Venice had close relations with the Arab empires.

It must have been a very important trading post back then. Remembering ‘The Merchant of Venice’.😊

Very important. It was on the frontier between the European and Arab worlds at the time.

Lovely pictures, Mick. I’ve been to Italy but we didn’t manage Venice at the time.

If you get the chance to go, Robbie, it’s definitely worth it.

Superb, isn’t it? Ours was rather too long ago now, too.

I’ve never seen the Grand Canal so empty of boats. That’s quite an interesting image. The last photo is quite painterly, but I also was taken by the humorous first photo: the juxtaposition of the modern boat with the old building is great.

I do seem to recall the Grand Canal wasn’t particularly busy most of the time we were there. I can’t actually remember exactly what time of year we went there, but it might have been autumn, and it was about fifteen years ago. I don’t suppose that’s a quiet time of year, though.

Wonderful photographs. I’ve been lucky enough to have visited Italy and Venice quite a few times, five I think, but I have never seen it as quiet as depicted in your photos, Mick. I haven’t been there for probably ten or more years, but I can’t imagine what must have happened.

I think we were just lucky. We went, I think, in November, which might be a slightly less busy time. But I do try to take photos like those with as few people in them as possible anyway, so I await my opportunity. I’ve plenty of crowd scenes as well, though!
