Last seen…well, never seen clearly, actually, Over all these years merely glimpsed occasionally on the borders of sleep, or somewhere in the shadows while I’ve been out walking. But even so, it must be a good few months since they were about.
I did think I heard her (for my muse is a her; most muses seem to be, for some reason) say that if I wouldn’t listen to her, there was no point in her hanging around. All nonsense, of course, since I do my very best to jot down her every word. But those words just haven’t been uttered recently. I’ve had no official muse input whatsoever.
Oh, woe is me.

So. We could say that your Muse has left you bemused, rather than amused.

Um…you could, yes.

Muses are known to be flighty so when she does show up, as she definitely will, it will be well worth the wait.😊

I’m sure it will. But, if they’re all that flighty, might it be worth my while to trap her when she returns and lock her in a cage or something?

My advice would be, don’t. She may just decide to disappear in a puff of smoke.😊

Oh, heck. Forget that one, then. Maybe she’d prefer champagne.

Definitely. Cheers!

Mick, I wonder if your muse is on a drinking binge with mine. Ramona has been AWOL for some time now. Let’s trust that when they return, they will be brimming with stories and inspiration, and that we soon shall be, too.

Oh dear, do you think so? Maybe we should join them.

Go skinny-dipping, and she’ll rock up with the cops in tow. Or, for the more sensible-minded, take a long bath with bubbles and music and wine, and she’ll turn up for sure (oh, and chocolates). Anytime you can’t get access to writing materials is when she turns up.

She’s certainly been known to make suggestions when I don’t have a notebook handy.
And I rather think my skinny-dipping days are long gone!

I totally get it. I’m trying hard to get her back – writing poetry, painting…all the exercises so she sees I’m serious🙂. I’m sure she’ll show up for me and you when she’s ready.

‘so she sees I’m serious’ – you may have a point there, Smitha.

Hi, Mick. I’ve just seen and read this, but I also noticed that you wrote a post called ‘Found – One Muse,’ which I shall read next. It’s so frustrating when our muse goes walkabout. I’ve just been bought a Tibetan Singing Bowl for my birthday, and I am wondering whether the sound of this, which is wonderful, healing and soothing, will assist my muse when she has gone AWOL. However, my muse doesn’t often disappear from me, but my concentration on reading does. I wonder if there is a word for that? X

I don’t know whether there’s a word for that, Ellie, but I’m sure we could think of one!
A singing bowl is a great way to bring your mind to focus on something. When it is used in Buddhist ritual, it’s never used to make that long, drawn-out note produced by rubbing around the rim, but is struck sharply but gently to make a single note; as this slowly dies away you are meant to just focus on the sound of the note, to bring your mind to attention. It’s often used at the end of a meditation for that reason. I find it works well to just clear my mind a little.

I shall put my mind to finding a word for my lack of concentration; that’s if I can concentrate enough on the topic to come up with anything.
I’ve only had my singing bowl a few days but have fallen in love with it. I didn’t know you had one, too. I use mine as you say; I strike it once and focus on the sound fading. I’ve lapsed a bit with my meditation lately. Perhaps, this will be a helpful aid for that, too. It was a present from my son. He’d never heard of one and just can’t understand why I’ve wanted one for so long. He thinks I’m a bit of a hippie, what with that, the meditation and being vegan. He could be right! Perhaps, I should write a poem about the hippie side of me. X

I bought mine in India, Ellie. I thought it would be a good meditation aid, but my meditation lapsed a while ago, I’m afraid. But it’s a lovely object in its own right, of course.

And now you’ve found her. Or is it she found you? Maybe that’s the trick, trying to get her personal attention, when she’s distracted by all those other writers trying to get her attention too.

It was more of a tap on the shoulder and ‘Listen, Buster!’ sort of moment, Dave.
