‘Hello again!’ *waves frantically*

Stuff gets in the way of life, as usual.

I just seem to have had no meaningful time available for the last ten days or so, which means I’ve missed putting up a couple of posts, as well as not being able to go off and read and comment on other folk’s posts. So today I’ll catch up with as many as I can, and post a few updates on my own projects. This has prompted me, however, to make a decision to change slightly how I use my time blogging.

Instead of nipping back frequently to check for replies to my post, or to my comments on other folks posts, I’m going to attempt to go on just once each day and deal with everything. I never have been very good at self-discipline, and I know that the way I use my time on the computer leads to my getting far less actual writing done than I should.

Prevarication, you could say.

So…firstly, I have received some lovely reviews for ‘Making Friends with the Crocodile‘, which rather makes it all worth while! I hadn’t realised how important the reviews would feel, but they do more than the actual sales figures to make me feel good about the book.

So a heartfelt ‘Thank you’ to those who have written those reviews!

Next, some of you will probably have noticed that I now have a link on my sidebar to a site where I sell photographs.

Bob Ramsak, a gifted photographer and reporter who blogs at ‘Piran Cafe‘ – http://www.pirancafe.com/ recommended this site, and I have begun to upload a few photographs there over the last few days. Hopefully, I will get a whole load more up in the future, especially ones that I have put up previously in this blog, but there are some forty or fifty up at the moment to start with.

I do not know how their particular algorithms work, but it seems likely that the more ‘views’ a picture gets, the more likely it is to feature on the front page of searches. I noticed that when I browsed the site, the pictures that came up first when I did a search, were the ones that had had a large number of views. Of course, I also realise that it is possible that the reason that they have more views, is that they come up first in the searches.

But if any of you have a few moments to spare, I’d be hugely grateful if you went and had a look, and then clicked on a few photos. The address is https://www.picfair.com/mickcanning

Finally, I also have a site where you can find a lot of my paintings. This is also on the sidebar, and is https://www.artgallery.co.uk/artist/mick_canning

But that’s probably more than enough self-promotion for today!

I had contemplated blogging on the EU referendum taking place tomorrow, but there is so much vitriol sloshing around at the moment that I’ve decided to keep out of it, at least on this blog.

And so I’ll leave it there, and come back with a brand new sparkling and shiny post in a few days time.

Unless more stuff gets in the way, of course.

  1. Looking forward to your return! I’m no model of consistent blogging. Seems to go in fits and spurts for me, as it takes so long for me to digest my travel notes and figure out stories. I admire your steadfastness.

  2. You can never have enough self-promotion, don’t worry about that! The whole EU thing is reaching fever pitch, isn’t it? I have commented on referendum-based things previously but I’m staying right out of it all now! Going off on a tangent a bit – I had an American friend of mine message me yesterday referring to Boris Johnson as the British Donald Trump! Of course, I corrected him and said that Donald Trump is the American Boris Johnson.

    1. Oh, they deserve each other, don’t they? Although I don’t think Boris can really match Trump (fortunately!).

I do find the self-promotion difficult, though. A very British reluctance to blow my own trumpet, I suppose. I’d rather just get on with the writing, really.

  3. Pictures clicked – check.
The price per pic isn’t modest though! I hope you’re getting a decent share of that pie! 🙂
And thanks for using the word sloshing, I feel I might be the only person outside the Tin islands who uses it anymore. 😀

  4. Mick, I have the same problem! Constantly responding when that alert hits my phone! I think taking time to do it all at once is a good plan… the trick will be sticking to it! 😀 Great news about your book. Good reviews are gold!

  5. Mik! I have thought of selling pictures too but it seems I have never been able to convince myself how I’ll be able to break though loads of existing pictures on internet already. will be happy if you can throw a light on this. P.S. I have never come across a person who sells pictures online!

  6. Blogging is very time-consuming, isn’t it! I need to find a better way to manage it as well. Good luck. Congrats on the reviews. They are awfully fun. Your photos are wonderful and your art gallery is especially beautiful. I love the vibrant colors 🙂 Have a great week.

  7. Good to see you back, Mick. When I first started blogging in 2014, I never dreamed it would come to take up so much of my time – writing – editing – writing – editing – publishing – spotting an error – editing again, and so on. I do read a fair handful of blogs but am only able to ‘Like’ and ‘Comment’ on a few of my favourite ones, yours, of course, being one of them 🙂 I love your art (you are very talented) and have also been to ‘visit’ your photography site. Brilliant pics so I’ve been genuinely clicking on many of them as I got a lot of enjoyment out of them. Looking forward to seeing more of your blog posts, photos and paintings, Ellie x

    1. Thanks, Ellie, for all of that. (and look, I’m back on here today after all. *sigh*). maybe I just need to focus on ensuring I spend more time writing, rather than focusing on not spending too much time blogging.

  8. Time management and blogging. Oh dear. I seem to be getting worse at it, not better. I started a routine where I wasn’t allowed to turn on my computer before midday. Mornings were for physical activity of the healthful or necessary kind, afternoons for writing, and evenings for reading and catching up on other people’s blogs. It worked well, but I didn’t stick to it.

So I’m about to give it another go…

  9. Hello, Mick! I know just what you mean – I have to be ruthless in the amount of time I spend looking at blogs, or I’ll never get any writing done 😀 So there are days when I’m here and days when I’m not…
And wonderful to hear your book is getting good reviews – they really do make a writers day, don’t they?
